Synopsis for "Thunder In Her Veins"
In the Maria Wheelock Cancer Center, Jane Foster is undergoing her chemotherapy treatments, while Volstagg waits to take her home. On the news, a manned Roxxon weather satellite is monitoring (and secretly controlling) the weather, when they are hit by something from outside. Looking through a port, they see a dead Light Elf with the words, "So begins the War of Realms," written across his chest. Almost immediately, and entire barrage of corpses assaults the satellite, compromising the hull integrity. As Jane watches the news cut away from the tragedy, she muses that maybe next time she'll get to finish her treatments. Whispering for Mjolnir, the hammer comes hurtling to her, landing in an alley outside the hospital. Picking it up, she transforms into Thor. Flying to D.C. where the Avengers are working to avert the catastrophe of a crashing satellite into the Washington Monument and the Lincoln Memorial, she gets in front of it, and keeps it from destroying either one. Flying back up into orbit, she sees countless Light Elf corpses and realizes that Malekith has made his first move. Heading back to the hospital, she muses that transforming into Thor neutralizes any benefit from the chemotherapy, but does nothing to affect her cancer. Hurling Mjolnir away, she changes back into Jane, and after waking up Volstagg, they return to Asgardia. There they find "wanted" posters all over the city proclaiming this new Thor to be a thief. Heading into the council chambers, she addresses the Council of Worlds that she has witnessed Light Elves dying, but no one believes her and they all break down into their normal bickering. Jane then goes to visit Freyja in the dungeon, and tells her that there is a small army willing to free her if she just gives the word. She declines and tells her that it is the Light Elves that need help the most. She changes to Thor again, and going to Heimdall, wants to use the Bifrost to travel to Alfheim to try and help the Light Evles, but she is interrupted by Cul and the Thunder Guard. Elsewhere, in a yawning void, the Dark Council meets on what to do next now that the war has begun and Light Elves are slaughtered. Malekith tells the others that there is another who wishes to be granted membership in their Council - Loki.
