HistoryEdit

Five millennia ago, Malekith led the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim in a campaign to return the universe to eternal darkness by releasing the Aether during a rare Convergence of the Nine Realms. Asgardian King Bor and his armies prevented this, taking the Aether from Malekith. To escape, Malekith dropped all but one Ark ship on the Asgardian army, sacrificing most of his people in the process. Boarding the last Ark, Malekith and his remaining army waited in suspended animation for another chance to plunge the universe into darkness. In modern times, at the beginning of another Convergence, Malekith and his army awakened when Jane Foster accidentally absorbed the Aether. Swearing revenge on Asgard and wanting to reclaim the Aether, Malekith sent his warrior Algrim to infiltrate Asgard as a prisoner. When Algrim transformed into Kurse and caused a prison break as a distraction, Malekith attacked Asgard with Harrow ships. Unable to reclaim the Aether because Odin's wife Frigga hid Foster from him, Kurse slew Frigga on Malekith's order. Thor struck Malekith with lightning in retaliation, severely burning, scarring, and blackening the right side of his face, but Kurse saved Malekith and took him back to the Ark. While Malekith healed, Thor and Loki brought Foster to Svartalfheim to lure the Dark Elves there, where Thor planned to destroy the Aether when Malekith took it from Foster. However, Malekith absorbed the Aether and journeyed to Earth, planning on releasing it during the Convergence. Thor battled Malekith, ultimately using Dr. Erik Selvig's gravimetric spikes to teleport Malekith back to Svartalfheim where he was crushed by his own Ark ship after it fell through another portal at the conclusion of the Convergence.
