First appearance

Galactus is the sole survivor of the universe that existed prior to the Big Bang that began the current universe. Born on the planet Taa, the being who wold become Galactus was a space explorer dispatched to discover if there was any wya to survive the rapidly approaching end of the universe. Discovering none, he and a handful of Taa'ns piloted an ancient starship into the heart of the universal core. Somehow penetrating the outer layer of the event horizon, the being who would become Galactus was contacted by the sentience of the Cosmic Egg, that primal sphere of disorganized, dense, compact matter of the universe. The Egg merged its essence with him and flung him from its outer locus of existence at the Big Bang that began our universe. The nascent Galactus drifted for eons as life began to come into existence through the new universe. Eventually he was sighted and studied by one of the Watchers, an ancient race of beings who had undertaken to observe the events of the universe. The Watchers sensed his vast power and his potential threat to life, but allowed him to continue to incubate. Galactus finally drifted into the orbit of the planet Archeopia, where he emerged upon being attacked by a marauding space armada. Destroying the entire fleet, the newly-born Galactus turned to the planet below and consumed its biospheric energies. Having sated his cosmic hunger, he built himself an immense starbase, then began his long and unending search for worlds to provide him sustenance.

Powers and AbilitiesEdit

Galactus possesses cosmic power beyond human measurement. His body courses with the energies of the pre-Big Bang universe endowed upon him by the Cosmic Egg itself. Galactus is able to use the vast energies within him for an incalculable number of effects. Some of his most rudimentary abilities are the molecular restructuring or conversion of matter, the projection of energy with enormous concussive force, the teleportation of external objects across space or even time, and the erection of invincible energy-screens and force fields. Even those beings in whom he has divested a small fraction of his ever-renewing power are able to manipulate matter and energy in ways far beyond human comprehension.

His body totally converts biospheric energy for its life functions and bodily activities without any waste products. Galactus is telepathic, able to scan the thoughts of any mind he has yet encountered, no matter how alien or advanced it was.

If he were to remove his armor, the vast cosmic energies that empower him would run rampant, with the potential to turn him into a small sun. Galactus requires biospheric energy obtainable only from a certain type of planet with life-bearing capacity, in order to sustain his life. The suitable type of planet need not be one where life is present, it simply has to have the potential for life. (Indeed, until Galactus encountered Earth, he had but once before consumed the energy of a planet inhabited by sentient lifeforms.) When Galactus was newly born, the energy of a medium-size Earth-like planet was enough to sustain him for over a century. Now, for reasons unknown, he needs to feed about once every month.

Galactus wears a full-body suit of armor constructed from an unknown extraterrestrial metal that permits him to regulate and control his personal energy. Although he is able to extract and absorb energy himself, he generally employs a complicated array of equipment to perform the conversion process for him. The equipment is not only more efficient that he is, it also enables him to avoid the needless expension of energy involved in the process.

Although Galactus is capable of space travel via his own power, he disdains the needless expenditure of power and prefers to traverse in starships of his own design.
